I occasionally smoke cannabis and was wondering if it would matter if I were to apply for Accident & Sickness Insurance? In the past I’ve been a regular smoker but not so much recently.
When it comes to cannabis use or drug use in general, it can be difficult to obtain Income Protection Insurance.
If you have smoked cannabis on a one off occasion or rarely then there is a possibility of obtaining cover.
However, if the cannabis use is regular then it is likely that most insurers will decline from offering cover for Accident & Sickness Cover.
Insurers will often require that you have gone a number of years without smoking cannabis or taking drugs as this will show to the insurers that you are no longer a user of such substances.
Although cannabis smokers may feel this is harsh, there are health risks associated with smoking and smoking cannabis which can make it difficult for insurers to cover this risk.
