Our Pocket Money Expert Lesson

  • How much is a lot of money?
  • How much does an apple cost?
  • What about a car or even a house?

These are just some of the key questions we’ve asked the nation’s children to see how clued up they are about money.

With around a fifth of kids believing you could get yourself a brand new car for as little as £1,000, and 1 in 10 reckoning you could buy a new set of wheels for less than £100, we delve into just how our little ones think about money.

Lockdown Lesson – What to expect?

With homeschooling in full swing and parents doing their best to cope with kids in isolation 😷 we wanted to do out bit to help.

We have created a short money class to help educate the little ones about their finances.

The lesson should take around 30 minutes and best worked through together.

We have tried to keep it light-hearted given the topic and may have gone a little overboard with GIFs 🤪 . We wanted to keep it engaging and more than anything try and make it fun for you to talk about money with them.

Tips For Grown-ups

It’s not easy teaching kids about money but the younger we start the better.

Fortunately, in addition to this lesson there are some simple and fun ways to help educate our little ones. Such as going through the receipt from a shopping trip with them or playing games at home which revolve around spending money.

Things to try at home…

  • Why not try a sticker chart or two empty jars for spending and saving so your child can track their savings progress?
  • The next time you go shopping, let your child help write down a shopping list and talk about how much things cost.
  • Make a cake with your children with a budget of £3 for ingredients

We hope you have enjoyed the lesson, any feedback is much appreciated. Just trying to do our bit during these difficult times.

Looks after yourself your family and most importantly stay safe.
